Trollstigen Trail
Take this easy walk through the woods on the Trollstigen Trail to see our 15-foot tall wooden troll sculpture, Isak Hearthstone! You can find the trailhead at the back corner of the Stephen C. West Ice Arena. During Summer months, you can access the trail on the Breck Free Ride via the Breckenridge Trolley or Gray South Routes. With minimal distance and elevation gain (not to mention an exciting troll to find!), the Trollstigen Trail is the perfect trail for even the smallest kiddos!

SAWMILL RESERVOIR
Sawmill Reservoir is one of our favorite easy hikes, and you don’t have to travel far to get there! Located on peak 9, this hike can be easily accessed on by the Breck Free Ride on the Gray South route. Owners at Grand Timber Lodge can walk directly from the resort. This trail runs through the forest, alongside Sawmill Creek, and beneath Snowflake lift, ending at Sawmill Reservoir with its backdrop of Breckenridge Ski Resort.

CUCUMBER GULCH
Cucumber Gulch, which offers hiking in the summer and cross-country skiing or snowshoeing in the winter, is a great trail to see lots of high-alpine biodiversity! This wetland trail runs beneath the BreckConnect gondola, the home of moose, deer, boreal toads, and more! You will see plenty of wildflowers, streams and ponds along your way. Cucumber Gulch would be a great place for a Colorado scavenger hunt! Cucumber Gulch can be accessed on the Breck Free Ride via the Gold Route.

SALLIE BARBER MINE
Looking for an easy hike with some Colorado mining history? We’ve got you covered! Sallie Barber Mine is a little bit longer distance and elevation gain than some of the other hikes, so would probably best be suited for kids 5 and up. Sallie Barber Mine takes you through the forest past historic mining ruins with informational signs, and stunning views of the Tenmile Range along the way.

BLUE RIVER TRAIL
Blue River Trail is an easy trail that leads from Breckenridge all the way to Blue River! You will reach the Blue River about a mile and a half from the start of the trail, making for a good turn-around point. The trail has a gradual incline with plenty of wildflowers and shade- a good option for kids and families!

SAPPHIRE POINT
Sapphire Point is just a little ways outside of Breckenridge, but it is always a kid favorite! Located at the top of Swan Mountain Road, about 15 minutes from Breckenridge, Sapphire Point overlooks Dillon Reservoir with the Tenmile and Gore Ranges as its backdrop. The trail is home to hundreds of friendly chipmunks and ground squirrels who won’t hesitate to run right up to you! Please do your part and don’t feed the wildlife, no matter how cute they are!

B&B to REILING DREDGE
B&B to Reiling Dredge is another great option to explore the mining history of Breckenridge! Mining sites and educational signage along the route will keep both adults and kids entertained. Be sure to stop and check out the Reiling Dredge ruins and mining tailings! This trail is very popular and you will encounter plenty of other hikers and bikers along the way.

BAKER’S TANK
Baker’s Tank Loop is a great option for a short hike in the Boreas Pass area. The loop takes you on a rocky trail through the woods to Baker’s Tank, a historic train refill stop, and back to the parking area via Boreas Pass Road. If you want to avoid the road, just head back down the trail! Baker’s Tank is very popular for hikers and bikers, especially when our beautiful aspens begin to change colors.

IOWA HILL
Iowa Hill, located on Airport Road, is a quick hike through the forest with some views of the town of Breckenridge. Generally Iowa Hill is less busy than other trails, a perfect spot to escape the crowds. The informative interpretive loop takes you past historic mining equipment with educational signs to the historic Iowa Hill Boardinghouse! Peek inside the windows for a view into the life of a miner in the 1800s.

BLUE LAKES
Blue Lakes, located in Blue River, is a quick and easy way to escape into the wilderness! Mountain goats, pikas and marmots frequent the lake and its rugged surrounding hillsides, so keep an eye out! Blue Lakes are picturesque alpine lakes that allow families to “choose their own adventure” along the shoreline- take photos, go fishing, or have a picnic. The road to the lake is gravel and can be a bit rough for 2WD vehicles.
