Ptarmigan trail is a fantastic hike that will take you through trees, up a couple inclines and end at a scenic overlook. This hike is suited for all ages, but it does have some steep inclines that you should take your time on. We would not recommend this hike for anyone that struggles with altitude sickness.
The trail start with a steep climb crossing a residential road and then through a large meadow. Just before you hit the one mile mark, you’ll enter into the trees and descend for about 1/4 mile before you hit the powerlines. Cross under the powerlines back into thicker forest and there you’ll find the trail begins slightly uphill again.
After a couple of miles, you’ll pass Angler Mountain Trail on your right. A couple miles after the junction there is a bench that overlooks the Gore Range. This is where we turned around to head back.
