Experience a Fall Trail Ride

Fall in the high country is here, which means the aspens are changing and entire mountainsides are covered with vibrant yellow-orange foliage! You may have witnessed the aspens change by taking a hike, bike ride, or scenic drive, but have you ever experienced fall in the Rockies on horseback?! Take in the scenery this autumn on a trail ride with one of our local stables or ranches!

Know Before You Go

Who Should Go:

  • Trail rides are a great way to spend the day outdoors regardless of fitness level!
  • Some ranches have a minimum age requirement for the safety of horses and children. Be sure to visit the ranch website for specific information.
  • Trail rides require the physical ability to get on and off a horse.
  • Those with back issues or pregnant people should consult with their doctor.

What To Bring:

  • Layers. Fall in the Rockies can be very brisk in the mornings and surprisingly warm in the afternoons. Long pants are recommended.
  • Sun protection. Bring sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, etc.
  • Appropriate footwear. Close-toed shoes or cowboy boots are recommended.
  • Tips. Ranch hands work on tips! Be sure to bring some cash to tip your wrangler.
  • Camera, smile, and sense of adventure. Get ready to have a good time!

Rusty Spurr Ranch

“Imagine navigating your own path through gorgeous aspen groves, up mountaintops, and across wildflower fields while soaking in the sunshine. You might see one of several historic 1800s pioneer homesteads and hear about the local flora and fauna. If you’re lucky, you could experience a beautiful rainbow after a refreshing sprinkle or catch a glimpse of wildlife peacefully enjoying their natural habitat on one of our NON-nose-to-tail trail rides. We have happy, healthy equines for all abilities, and we personally choose each rider’s horse according to their needs. While exploring our vast mountain ranch, you are encouraged to ride off the trails wherever the terrain allows.”

  • Location:  County Road 387, Kremmling, CO 80459
  • Open for fall through September 28
  • Minimum age: 8 years old
