Fall Foliage Focus: Mountain Bike Rides

If you are looking for a way to view the fall colors while zooming down singletrack trails, we have you covered. Breckenridge is known for its world-class mountain biking, so why not take in those spectacular fall colors on a bike? We have trails or loops listed below that are fantastic ways to go leaf peeping. Not all trails are suitable for new riders, so make sure to read about them fully before heading out for a ride.

Before you hit the trails, make sure you understand mountain bike trail etiquette to ensure a smooth ride! Follow these of the trail throughout Breckenridge.

  • Respect all trail users. Treat others with courtesy regardless of their sport, speed or skill level. Bikers should always yield to hikers and horses.
  • Stop, not yield, to all uphill traffic. Expect and anticipate other users in blind spots and corners, especially during peak leaf-peeping season. Pass with care.
  • Keep single-track single. Don’t leave the trail to pass or shortcut.
  • Stay off of muddy trails. Ride/walk over, not around, obstacles.
  • Pick up and carry out all waste.

Aspen Alley

Trail Difficulty: Blue-Intermediate

Trail Details

Aspen Alley is one of the most iconic mountain bike trails in Breckenridge. This downhill trail is lined with aspen’s and is a great way to take in the fall colors. While this trail is two directional, we highly recommend treating it as a downhill only trail. It is rated blue, so we would not recommend this for beginners.

Bakers Tank Loop via Boreas Pass

Trail Difficulty: Green/Blue-Beginner/Intermediate

Trail Details

This loop is great for beginners and is 50 percent road and 50 percent single track. It takes you up Boreas Pass road where you will get stunning views of the Ten Mile Range and aspens lining the road to the Bakers Tank Trail head where you will take singletrack back to the start. This is a 6-mile ride.

Tenderfoot Mountain Trail

Trail Difficulty: Blue/Black-Intermediate/Difficult

Trail Details

This loop provides great views of Lake Dillon, the Ten Mile Range and trees turning on Tenderfoot Trail. The trail is a short 3.8 mile loop, but can be connected to others for a 14.4 mile loop called Chaco’s TenFoot Loop. This is a blue/black, so it isn’t recommended for beginners. For similar views on the Frisco side of the lake, but a green/blue trail, try the Frisco Peninsula Lakeshore Loop.

Classic Breckenridge Route

Trail Difficulty: Blue-Intermediate

Trail Details

This 100 percent singletrack, 12-mile trail is perfect for anyone with mountain biking experience that wants to see some of the best fall sights. This route can be ridden in either direction, but there are sections that are downhill only, so we recommend the counterclockwise direction. Because of the complexity of trails we also recommend downloading the MTB Project app and having it along with you.
